All of us are dealing with increasing demands on our practice and the need to remain efficient in all aspects of our business. We must find ways to reduce our cost because of increasing costs that are involved with running a medical practice. Things such as compliance and liability are important for us to keep in mind whether it be with our free medical billing software or any other area of our business as well. This has a lot to do with the changing requirements of payers and that the payouts that seem to be reduced recently. One of the main reasons why you would not want to choose free medical billing software is because of HIPAA requirements. It is very important that you remain in compliance with these requirements if you're going to be doing any electronic billing at all. In fact, you are only given 24 months to bring your business into compliance with the new regulations that are put out according to this particular act. This can really add up to a lot of trouble for you if you use a free medical billing software system that is not constantly updated in order to make sure that your business keeps up with the latest regulations. Perhaps you just need to be able to build clients and your practice is small and personal enough that you don't need as powerful of a program as other medical practices may need. If this is the case, some free medical billing software may help you to be able to take care of your billing. You may still want to look into a paid solution, however, because you want to make sure that as many different parts of your software are tied together as possible. A good example of this is switching back and forth between your scheduling software and your billing software. This can be very time consuming unless the two of them are able to talk effectively with each other. Other things that your billing software may be able to take care of include managing patient information, scheduling appointments and printing out reports. Something that you certainly will not get with a free medical billing software suite is support. This is a very important part of running a medical practice whenever you're using billing software because you want to make sure that support is available at any time that you need them. The last thing that you want to have happen is for your entire back office to grind into a halt because support is unavailable whenever there is a software problem. More than likely, the way that you will get an effective medical billing software without cost is through the use of a demo. Although these will not be free for the long-term, you will have enough time to be able to actually test one of these programs out and see if it fits in well with your business.
